Ethiopia- And They're Off!!

ENA board members and expedition participants are currently en route to the village of Kaliti, Ethiopia for our expedition!

This is Engage Now Africa’s 23 rd expedition to Ethiopia and this year we will be working in the rural village Kaliti.

Kaliti is approximately 60 miles South of the capital city Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  There are 11 people from the US participating and 8 in country people who will be working along side us.  We will be painting one of our new block schools, sanding and varnishing desk tops for students and constructing latrine enclosures. We will also be teaching numerous classes to villagers about personal hygiene and sanitation, feminine hygiene and modern day slavery (human trafficking). And when participants aren't building or teaching they will most definitely be spending every free moment they have playing games with the village children (always a highlight!).

ENA staff and participants will be working in the village for 10 days and are all very excited about the projects they will be working on with our dear friends in Ethiopia. We can't wait to bring you pictures and stories about the expedition next month!

Ethiopia- Thank You!

ENA would like to thank this wonderful group of girls from Newhall, CA!!

This group of young women constructed menstruation kits to be distributed to girls living in the rural Ethiopian village of Kaliti. With these precious gifts, young girls in Africa will be able to properly care for themselves and be able to practice proper feminine hygiene for the first time in their lives. These kits will also allow these same young girls the opportunity to attend school and leave their homes while on their periods. Prior to receiving these kits, young girls were required to stay home for the duration of their monthly periods.

Thanks to you and your hard work, you are giving our friends in Ethiopia a wonderful, life changing gift!

Ghana- ENA Creates Nationally Televised Education Competition

ENA is currently hosting a competition across Ghana that will help needy students gain access to education and scholarships based on competition results.

ENA's Director of Education, Francis Ansah, wrote about his thoughts and experience this week:

"It's been a very tough and tiring week. But all the same  it has been a  very exciting one to all in Ghana.

Everyone here in Ghana is very excited. The Minister of Public sector reform of the nation and the regional minister of Northern  Ghana...made statements that "this is history in the making and one of its kind in the country".

The main purpose of the program is to select brilliant, needy and vulnerable students from public schools arround  the country. This program will be aired on a weekly basis. As we speak, professional videos are being taken and post production will be done hopefully by the end of  next week...

It is both a Debate and quiz program. It is very intriguing and can make people get stuck on their TV."

We look forward to posting the results of the show and clips from the show once it airs on television. But, until we are able to do so, below are a few pictures from the taping of the competition.
